Review of the sermon on the mount

  • The Beatitudes- addressing heart conditions

  • Salt and light- we are to be flavorful beacons to mankind

  • Christ fulfills the law- Christ came to fulfill the law not abolish it

  • Murder and Adultery begins in the heart- Another heart condition check, whether the action is performed or not, if it is in the heart, it already has been committed

  • Divorce practices- Jesus clarifies the only real reason for divorce, sexual immorality

  • Tell the truth- be honest in word and deed

  • Go the 2nd mile- stand beside you fellow man and encourage each other

  • Love your Enemies- let the Lord be the deliverer of wrongs, your job is to love

  • How to give- Jesus gives us money advice, how to give with the right heart condition

  • How to pray and the Lord's prayer- Jesus gives us the reason to pray and what heart condition to pray with. Then gives us an example of the structure of a prayer

  • How to Fast- we need to understand the reasoning and practice of fasting God and possessions- we need to worry about what we have stored up in heaven, not what is on Earth

  • The cure for anxiety- Jesus tells us that God has you covered and there is no need to worry.

  • Do not Judge- Jesus teaches us how and who to judge

  • Ask, knock, and search- Another lesson on prayer and petition

  • Entering the Kingdom- there is only and that is Jesus

  • The two foundations- it is not enough just to hear God's commands, we are required to put them into practice. Be doers of the Word. Practice what He preaches.

Bible Passages:

Matthew 7:24-29

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

28 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, 29 because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.
