The fear of the Lord 2 types of fear
1. The spirit of fear, which is debilitating
2. Fear of the Lord, a total acknowledgement of all that God is, a respect. The fear of the Lord: Proverbs 1:7- is the beginning of knowledge
Proverbs 14:27- is the fountain of life
Proverbs 19:23- it leads to life, one will sleep at night
Proverbs 14:26- it gives a strong confidence
Psalms 34:9- will have us lack nothing
Proverbs 8:13- is to hate evil Evil is pride, evil conduct, and perverse speech
Matthew 10:28- don't fear those that can only kill the body
Proverbs 3:5-7- don't rely on your own understanding, turn away from evil.
The fear of the Lord
is the beginning of knowledge;
fools despise wisdom and discipline.
In the fear of the Lord one has strong confidence
and his children have a refuge.
27 The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life,
turning people away from the snares of death.
The fear of the Lord leads to life;
one will sleep at night without danger.
You who are his holy ones, fear the Lord,
for those who fear him lack nothing.
To fear the Lord is to hate evil.
I hate arrogant pride, evil conduct,
and perverse speech.
Don’t fear those who kill the body but are not able to kill the soul; rather, fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not rely on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways know him,
and he will make your paths straight.
7 Don’t be wise in your own eyes;
fear the Lord and turn away from evil.
