Do not judge

  • The world tends to take parts of this scripture, to defend themselves against scrutiny. But these verses do not tell to lack discernment. We are reminded here to make sure we start discerning ourselves before we look to others. We need to be able to tell the differences between good and evil, so we can identify the sin in our lives and to show love to our brothers and sisters by keeping safe from their sin.

  • God does not hate judging, He hates sin. God chooses judges. (Judges 2:18) but there is a right and a wrong way to judge. (John 7:24)

  • Here are a few wrong ways to judge:

  • 1. Superficial judgment. (Romans 2:1) We should not judge situations or people that we do not know the full story to.

  • 2. Harsh unforgiving judgment.(Galatians 6:1) We are to judge in kindness, while being weary to sin in our rebuking

  • 3. Self righteousness judging (James 4:6) We need to Remember we are all sinners and fall short of the glory of God.

  • 4. Do not judge falsely (Proverbs 19:5) We are told to be truthfully and upright.

  • We need to allow others to inspect us if we are to be inspecting others, all is to be done with love, with the right heart condition. We need to lovingly and gentle speak God's truth into the lives of others as well as allowing others to speak that same truth into our lives as well.

Today's Scripture

Matthew 7:1-6

“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

6 “Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.

Judges 2:18

Whenever the Lord raised up a judge for them, he was with the judge and saved them out of the hands of their enemies as long as the judge lived; for the Lord relented because of their groaning under those who oppressed and afflicted them.

John 7:24

Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly.”

Romans 2:1

You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things.

Galatians 6:1

Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted.

James 4:6

But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says:

“God opposes the proud
but shows favor to the humble.”[a]

Proverbs 19:5

A false witness will not go unpunished,
and whoever pours out lies will not go free.
